06.02.2014 - Second annual Pisgah Bike Omnium set for July 5-6
The second annual Pisgah Bike Omnium, a two-stage cycling event, will be held July 5-6 in both Brevard and Etowah.
This race offers competitors both a road race segment (on rural contry roads) and a criterium (on closed city streets). The road race will be held through Brevard and Etowah on Saturday, July 5, and will be followed by the criterium through downtown Brevard on Sunday, July 6.
Up for grabs is a prize purse worth $8,500. Contestants have the option of competing in one event or both events and still qualify for the prizes.
All 2014 USA Cycling rules are in effect for the Omnium. To be eligible for prizes, cyclists must present at registration their USAC license or their bib number. To participate in the Omnium, cyclists must pre-register as an Omnium competitor in one race category on the USAC online registration.
For the road race and criterium, points are awarded to the top 20 cyclists.
The road race course is an 11.75-mile loop that begins in Brevard and goes through parts of Etowah. Roads used in Brevard and Etowah will be Everett Road, Old Hendersonville Highway, Crab Creek Road, Hart Road, and the finish will end on Poplar Lane. It is a rolling road course with no major climbs and a various number of laps depending on your race category.
The criterium in downtown Brevard starts on North Caldwell Street, then a right onto West Probart Street, a right onto Railroad Avenue, another right onto King Street and then complete the loop by turning right onto North Caldwell Street.
