Camping and Campgrounds Near Hendersonville, NC
Public Campgrounds Several nice campgrounds are located throughout the National Forests, the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, along the Blue Ridge parkway, and in several state parks. Below is a list of public campgrounds near hiking trails; all are close enough to at least some trails so you will not need a vehicle shuttle to go hiking from your campsite. Lake Powhatan Campground Lake Powhatan Campground is a heavily wooded campground on the banks of Lake Powhatan. It is located at the Lake Powhatan Recreation Area at Bent Creek. Camping season runs from April 1st to October 31st. There are hot showers, restroom facilities, and a swimming area available for campers. There are almost 100 sites on Lake Powhatan. The campsite fee is $12 per night. Call for information (828) 670-5627. North Mills River Campground North Mills River Campground is located 5 miles west on NC 280 on North Mills River Rd at the North Mills River Recreation Area It is right on the river, within a short distance of many great trails in the Mills River area, and just a few minutes drive of all the Mills River Area's trails. Camping season runs from April 1st to October 31st. Flush toilets are available. There are 32 sites on this beautiful campground. The campsite fee is $6 per night. Mount Pisgah Campground Mount Pisgah Campground is located on the Blue Ridge Parkway across from the Pisgah Inn. This campsite is at a high elevation (nearly 5000 feet), it is wooded and has secluded paved sites. There are separate tent/RV areas. Also it is all within a short drive of Graveyard Fields, Sliding Rock, and the Bent Creek, Mills River and Davidson River areas via the scenic Blue Ridge Parkway. Davidson River Campground The Davidson River Campground offers overnight camping for trailers and tents. It is located about one mile west on Us 276 past the Pisgah Forest entrance when coming from Hendersonville. It is right on the river, within a short distance of many great trails: the North Slope trail starts right out of the campground itself, and several others start right across the street! The river there is great for fishing, including backcountry trout fishing on Cove Creek and trophy brown and rainbow trout fishing on the Davidson River. Also, the river is perfect for swimming, and tubing. Restroom facilities with hot showers, drinking water, tent pads, grills, picnic tables, and a trailer dump station are available. Sites are available on a first-come, first-served basis, there are 161 sites on the campground, and the campsite fees range from $18/night for a single site to $40/night for double sites.
